Young filmmakers are to have their work showcased at a national festival.

Pupils from Cleaswell Hill School in Choppington will have their film The Day of the Stationary screened at The Co-operative Young Film Makers Festival in Bradford next month.

After being made unemployed from her role as manageress at an Ashington florist, Alison Slater from Stakeford, was forced to assess her options for the future - and fast.

Fifteen weeks later, she has opened her own business, Alison's Floral Designs, and business is blooming.

Police investigate Stakeford crash

Investigations were continuing yesterday into the circumstances surrounding a weekend road smash in a Northumberland village which claimed the life of a car driver.

Northumbria Police yesterday named the man who was killed in the accident, in West Terrace, Stakeford, as Dale Kindley, 44, who came from Ashington.

The Traveller's Rest in Choppington began their season with a three-point haul.

Goals from Malcolm Lawson, Simon Kilpatrick, Matty Malambieck and Steven Young saw them to a 4-1 triumph over Linton and Woodhorn SC.

A flood-hit private nursery has been re-housed in Choppington.

Goosehill Day Nursery, which looks after about 35 children each day, was left under water when the River Wansbeck burst its banks. Now it has been temporarily moved to the Choppington Children's Centre.

Owner and manager Amanda Willis said: "Without this help there was a real risk that I would lose children and staff, and the business would fail to survive. I just can't thank the county council enough."
