Cash helps pupils stay healthy
Pupils at a Choppington school will get some health benefits from a fund that helps young people.
The £19,232, from Mediabox's ninth round of funding, is being used to enable young people from Cleaswell Hill school, Choppington, to explore the subject of healthy living.
Additional funding of £5,000, from the Communities for Health Fund, will be used to create a website to showcase the work produced.
Until the end of this month, 24 students from the school, which caters for children with special educational needs between the ages of four and 16, will be working with film and media company Arpeggio Films.
This youth-led interactive media project will explore health issues that are important to the students, ranging from healthy eating to getting enough sleep, mountain biking and the importance of being happy.
Earlier this month, the young people prepared and broadcast two live radio shows discussing a range of healthy living themes, thanks to support from Lionheart Radio in Alnwick.
Connor McLeod, 13, said: "The project makes me feel good about myself as I've learned more about healthy living."
Fellow student Kane Hart, 14, said: "The project has been great and so far I've really enjoyed it."
